Management

Ashcare is a small, non-government, not-for-profit, charitable organisation.

The affairs of Ashcare are conducted by a voluntary Committee of Management (comprising family members and interested community members) plus committees managing finance and fundraising.

The Board is supported by approximately 50 salaried staff (permanent part-time staff members plus a pool of casual staff dedicated to each residence) plus 2 administration staff and the Executive Officer who are located in Ashcare office in Mitcham.

Funding

Partial funding is provided by the State Government via the Department of Human Services. Some of the running costs are met by resident fees. We also rely on various fundraising activities and generous supporters throughout each year, plus donations from community minded benefactors and bequests.

Services

Ashcare currently provides accommodation and support for 21 people in 3 houses in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Two adjoining houses are situated in Blackburn South and the third is located in Warranwood.
Most residents have severe physical disabilities complicated by intellectual and/ or communication, sensory and other neurological disabilities. Many have complex health care needs. Our residents are supported by teams of professional, highly trained, committed staff who are rostered to provide active support 24 hours of every day.

And introducing Tennyson Street - construction of our most recent service was completed in October 2006 and will be home for 5 young adults who have disabilities and high support needs.
